First Strike | StarCraft: Brood War (Terran #1)

TERRAN CAMPAIGN: THE IRON FIST

Since the conflict began in the Koprulu sector, the ruling council of the United Earth Directorate has closely monitored its wayward Terran colonies.

Having witnessed the steady advancement of the Zerg infestation and the maneuverings of the Protoss throughout the Colonies, the ruling council has finally agreed to take control over the war-torn sector.

Learning that a new Zerg Overmind has manifested itself upon the planet Char, the UED has sent its greatest Admiral, Gerard DuGalle, to capture the creature.

As Captain of the UED fleet under DuGalle, your objective will be to storm the Terran Dominion and depose of its dictator, Emperor Mengsk I.

BRIEFING

Adjutant: Adjutant online. Good morning, Captain. Our long voyage from Earth is over, and we are holding a stationary position near the borders of Dominion space. I trust that the effects from your long cold sleep have worn off by now. If not, the Med Officer can provide you with additional CryoStim supplements. Admiral DuGalle has issued a proclamation to the entire fleet via transmat. I’ll patch it through to you now.

DuGalle: Attention! Defenders of the United Earth Directorate, this is Admiral DuGalle. You were all briefed before we left Earth, so you know that we have come heer to conquer this sector in the name of Humanity. Should any of you have second thoughts about performing your assigned duties, be reminded that if we fail in our mission here, not one of us will be going home. We stand or fall together in this forsaken wasteland!

Serve the Directorate. Serve Humanity. All other priorities are secondary to victory! DuGalle out.

Adjutant: Transmat completed. Receiving incoming transmission.

Stukov: Good morning, Captain. I am Vice Admiral Stukov, tactical advisor to Admiral DuGalle. I see you’ve already reviewed his proclamation. I’m sure it doesn’t cover anything you weren’t already familiar with. Once you get to know the Admiral, I’m sure you’ll find that he’s actually quite personable.

At any rate, Captain, I do have orders for you. As we are about to begin our invasion of the Dominion, we will need access to their primary datanet and weapons diagnostics. To this end, you are to assault the outlying planet of Braxis, and take control of its capital city of Boralis. You are to deploy your forces within two standard hours. The Admiral expects perfect results, Captain. Stukov out.

OBJECTIVES

  • Destroy the enemy command center.

RESOURCES

You start with 4 SCVs, 3 Marines, and 2 Siege Tanks.

Buildings: Command Center, Barracks, Factory with Machine Shop addon, and 2 Supply Depots.

250 Minerals – 11/26 Supplies.

STRATEGY

Command your 4 SCVs to harvest Minerals — each on a different Mineral node.

IMPORTANT – every new SCV you train, send them to a different Mineral node each time.

Build 5 SCVs.

At 00:13 — Marine: Ah, crap! This landing site doesn’t have any gas! Guess we better start looking for another geyser.

Move your 2 Tanks north. Kill this marine and the Missile Turret. This will aggro 2 Marines. Move back a bit and let them come

Now destroy the 2 Missile Turrets, and this area becomes your expansion base.

At 15/26, build a second Barracks.

Build 3 SCVs.

At 17/26, build a third Barracks.

Build an SCV.

Build a Supply Depot.

Build 4 SCVs.

Send your Siege Tanks east and kill these 2 Marines.

Two more Marines aggro from the north.

Around 2:10, 3 Marines attack your Barracks. Kill them with your Marines.

Build 3 Marines.

An enemy Goliath and a Vulture will aggro as you attack their enemy base. Later, a Marine and a Firebat. At that point you should head back to your base and not engage. Lure them back to your marines at the main base if they chase your tanks.

Wait until the last 3 Marines on queue come out. Then send all your marines, and the 2 tanks to attack the enemy base.

Build 3 SCVs.

Now head north where you will find a new Terran base set to allied.

Duran: Captain, I am Lieutenant Samir Duran of the Confederate Resistance Forces. I’ve been monitoring your attack against the Dominion, and I’d like to offer you my services and skills in return for amnesty.

Stukov: Intriguing. Lieutenant, you have absolutely no idea as to who we are or what we have come here to do. Why do you wish to side with us?

Duran: Because my men and I have sworn to fight against the Dominion and its Emperor. Seeing as how your forces have been laying into this Dominion base, I figured we were on the same side.

Stukov: I see. How exactly do you propose to be of service to us, Lieutenant?

Duran: Well, I possess intimate knowledge of the surrouding area. I can show you an alternate route that leads to the rear of the main Dominion base.

Stukov: Very well, Lieutenant. Consider yourself and your men the first colonial conscripts of the United Earth Directorate. Captain, see that the Lieutenant is given our full cooperation. We shall see if he’s worth the effort.

ADDITIONAL MISSION OBJECTIVE

  • Duran must survive.

Send Duran’s 5 SCVs to harvest Minerals from a different node each.

Build a Refinery at Duran’s base.

Build an SCV at Duran’s base.

Build an SCV at the main base.

Select 6 SCVs from your base, and send them to harvest minerals at Duran’s base — from different nodes. Careful of incoming enemy along the way — 3 enemy Marines and a Firebat will attack your base around 4:47.

Build 6 Marines.

Build an SCV at the main base.

Command 3 SCVs to harvest Vespene Gas.

Build an SCV at the main base.

Build a Supply Depot.

Select the Factory’s Machine Shop addon. Research Siege Tech.

Repair your Siege Tanks.

Build an SCV at Duran’s base.

Build a Siege Tank.

By now the Siege Tech research is complete.

Send most of your marines — except a few to protect the main base — 2 SCVs and the Siege Tanks to this location. Set your Siege Tanks into Siege-mode to Destroy the Bunker and any enemy troops that come to defend it. Use the SCVs to repair the tanks.

Build a Marine at Duran’s base.

Build a Supply Depot.

Build a second Factory.

Build a Siege Tank.

Around 7:10, an enemy Vulture and marines might attack Duran’s SCVs.

Build a Bunker near the Refinery.

Move all your Siege Tanks to the chokepoint. This protects the second path the enemy can reach Duran’s base.

Build 2 Bunkers near this spot — but probably best to place it where the 5 marines are standing so that Marines shots reach the edge of the frozen lake. These 2 Bunkers are the only path for the enemy to reach your main base by ground — but don’t let that fool you… they have dropships.

Build 3 Marines.

Build an SCV at the main base.

Build an SCV at Duran’s base.

Build a second Factory at Duran’s base.

Build a Supply Depot at Duran’s base.

Load 4 Marines into each Bunker.

Build 3 Marines.

Build a Siege Tank.

Build a Supply Depot left of the 2 Bunkers.

Select the main base’s Command Center. Build a Comsat Station.

Move your Siege Tanks to this location and set them into siege-mode; and bring a sizeable Marine team to protect them.

Lift Off Duran’s Barracks and fly it over toward the Siege Tanks.

With the second Factory complete, build a Machine Shop addon.

Select Duran’s Command Center. Build a Comsat Station.

Build a Supply Depot.

Build 3 Marines. Rally new units to protect the 2 Bunkers.

Build a Siege Tank.

Build 2 Supply Depots in front of the 2 Bunkers.

Build 3 Marines.

Build 3 Marines. Rally them to assist your Siege Tanks.

Select the Terran Academy. Research U-238 Shells to increase Marine attack range.

Build an SCV at the main base.

Build 3 Marines.

Build another Supply Depot in front of the 2 Bunkers — to block incoming enemies.

Build 5 Marines.

Build a Siege Tank.

Build 2 Marines.

Set your Tanks into siege-mode to destroy this Bunker and all incoming enemies.

Build a Siege Tank.

Build 10 Marines.

Continue to destroy enemy buildings, and use Comsat Station to provide vision ahead before moving forward. Bring 2 SCVs for Tank repairs. Have your Marines ready for a Wraith aggro.

Build a Siege Tank.

Build 8 Marines.

Build a fourth Barracks at the main base.

Build a Siege Tank.

Build 3 Marines.

Build a Siege Tank.

Build 6 Marines.

Destroy the 2 enemy Bunkers at this chokepoint — west of your 2 Bunkers. Then move your tanks through the chokepoint. However, there are Spider Mines where the enemy Bunkers were.

It is not practical to attack the enemy through the front — via this chokepoint. Remember: the objective is to destroy the enemy Command Center.

Build 6 Marines.

Build a fifth Barracks.

Build a Siege Tank.

Build a Supply Depot.

Build 8 Marines.

Build a Siege Tank.

Build 8 Marines.

Continue that pace as resources allow.

OPTIONAL: You can build a Command Center at the expansion site north of your main base to harvest more minerals.

Duran talked about the alternate route to the rear. That is in reference to the path north of Duran’s base. This is the route you should focus your army to go through.

I would build 2 bunkers and put my marines there before going into siege mode, though. The entire base might aggro when you hit the Command Center.

OR

You can just go straight through and destroy every building until you reach the Command Center.

Duran: Mission successful, Admiral.

Stukov: Excellent, Lieutenant. This planet’s primary defenses are now crippled. Our Tac Teams can now begin to decode the Dominion’s security datalink.

This mission was completed in 19:25 minutes.
