The Quest for Uraj | StarCraft: Brood War (Protoss #4)

Protoss fleet orbiting the planet Braxis.

BRIEFING

Raszagal: Now then, Kerrigan. Perhaps you had best explain yourself. What is this news you’ve come to give?

Kerrigan: There is a new Overmind growing on Char.

Zeratul: What? Impossible! Why should we believe anything you have to say?

Kerrigan: Because, Zeratul, I’m no longer the mindless murderess whom you fought on Char. The Overmind is dead. Whatever warped control it once had over me is gone. I know that this is a lot to take in all at once, but you’ve got to believe me! There’s more at stake here than-

Aldaris: She lies! She is infested to the core! I for one will not listen to any of this-

Raszagal: Silence, Judicator. Continue, Kerrigan.

Kerrigan: Apparently, many of the renegade Cerebrates commanded by Daggoth, have merged into a new Overmind. Fortunately, the creature is still in its infant stages. It can’t control the Swarm yet, but Daggoth and the others still have control over most of the Broods. The two Cerebrates you killed here were part of Daggoth’s forces.

Look, I don’t need to tell you all what might happen if that thing reaches maturity. I can guarantee you that should it awaken, it’ll take full control of me just like it did before. I don’t want that to happen, and I’m pretty sure you don’t want it to happen either.

Zeratul: Even if what you say is true, our priority is to save this world, not assault the new Overmind! We must find the crystals Uraj and Khalis before we are all vanquished.

Kerrigan: Then I’ll help you with your search. If you can defeat the renegade Zerg gathered here, it’ll weaken the efforts of Daggoth and his ilk.

Raszagal: My children, you must put aside your fears and misgivings to accomplish what must be done. For the time being, Kerrigan will assist you in your endeavors. Though she has been your enemy, it is enough that we share the same agenda now. Allow her time enough to prove herself to you, and you may find her to be a valued ally. For now, you must focus on the task at hand. Search for the Uraj on the planet Braxis, and let nothing stop you from recovering it.

Artanis: We will do what you ask, Matriarch. But you cannot expect us to forgive Kerrigan’s crimes against our race! Executor, prepare our forces. We shall debark for the planet Braxis before the next moonrise.

OBJECTIVES

  • Bring Kerrigan to the Uraj crystal.
  • Kerrigan must survive.

TIPS

Protoss Reavers can be used to effectively defend your base and to quickly destroy enemy towns. Keep them protected by other units, since they are slow and vulnerable.

RESOURCES

Initially you start with 3 Dragoons and 3 Reavers. Then another shuttle drops Kerrigan and 4 Probes.

When the Probes land, you are given resources to build a new base.

Buildings: none.

865 Minerals – 100 Vespene Gas.

STRATEGY

The mission starts with 3 shuttles dropping 3 Dragoons and 3 Reavers upon an enemy Terran base. Destroy all the SCVs and buildings.

A few seconds later, another Shuttle arrives and drops Kerrigan and 4 Probes.

Kerrigan: Explain something to me, Zeratul. Why would your people leave such a sacred crystal in the hands of these Terrans?

Build a Nexus close to the Vespene Geyser.

Send the Probes to harvest minerals.

Zeratul: We didn’t. Long ago, this world was a Protoss colony called Khyrador. When the strife between our tribes escalated, this planet and the Uraj Crystal were abandoned. These Terrans have come here only recently.

Build 2 Pylons.

Select each Reaver individually and replenish their scarabs.

Not recommended to explore at the beginning. Terrans have siege tanks in high ground. Move the Dragoons above the ramp by the frozen lake.

When the Nexus is complete, a message appears onscreen.

Artanis: Executor, we have a problem. Our warp matrix was damaged during transit. Because of the extensive damage, we will be unable to warp-in stargates to this location!

Build a Pylon.

Build a Probe.

Build a Pylon near the southern ramp.

Build 5 Probes.

Send the Dragoons and a Reaver down the southern ramp.

Use the Reaver to destroy 2 Bunkers from afar. Have the Dragoons nearby to protect the Reaver, but do not use the Dragoons to destroy the Bunkers. A Goliath might aggro.

At 27/33, build a Gateway.

Build 2 Probes.

Build a Pylon near the eastern ramp.

Build a Probe.

Build 3 Dragoons. Set rally point to assist your troops’ location.

Build a Probe.

Build a Pylon below the expansion base Nexus.

Destroy the Barracks. A Goliath will aggro from the ramp.

Careful with the Observer. There is a turret left of this ramp. This is the siege tank range (see the Dragoon shot by the Siege Tank).

Select the Citadel of Adun. Upgrade Leg Enhancements to increase Zealot movement speed.

Build a fourth Gateway.

Build a fifth Gateway.

Build a sixth Gateway.

Move your 5 Dragoons up the ramp, and kill the Tank. Now move far away from the Bunker, and destroy it from afar with your Singularity Charge upgrade. Bring the Reaver along. Leave the Observer behind because there are 2 Missile Turrets up the ramp.

Build 3 Dragoons.

Build a Pylon.

Build a Probe.

Build an Assimilator at the expansion base Vespene Geyser.

Continue to move your troops south. A Goliath will greet you.

Send all your troops to attack the Terran Base located at the bottom-right corner of the mini-map.

You don’t need to destroy the entire Terran base. Just make a path to reach the Uraj crystal (marked in the mini-map shown above) — further to the east in the fog of war.

Build 3 Dragoons.

Build 1 Zealot.

Build an eighth Gateway.

Build a nineth Gateway.

When you are nearing the Uraj crystal, send Kerrigan and 1 Probe to stand on the beacon.

Kerrigan: The Crystal’s here, boys! Send in a probe to gather it up and our work here is done.

Zeratul: You have done well, Kerrigan. There is more to you than it seems. Perhaps I have misjudged you.

Kerrigan: Given our history, I can’t say I blame ya’. Let’s just get the job done.
