True Colors | StarCraft: Brood War (Zerg #5)

Outskirts of Augustgrad

Early morning

Kerrigan: Cerebrate, Duran, the time has come to separate the chaff from the wheat. Now that the UED’s power base is broken on this world, only their forces on Char pose any significant threat to me. It’s time to move to the second phase of my plan.

Duran: And what of your allies here on Korhal, my Queen? What would you have done with them?

Kerrigan: They are of no further use to me. Though they have proven themselves useful, it might be dangerous to allow them to live. Without the services of General Duke, Mengsk will be easy to deal with. But Raynor and Fenix are uncannily resourceful. They must all be eradicated. Cerebrate, I want both General Duke’s and Fenix’s bases destroyed. Leave no one alive.

Duran: My Queen, if I may suggest a strategy? Both the Protoss and Terran forces are resting after our previous victory. If we attack immediately, while most of them are asleep and unaware, we can whitle down their defenses with relative ease!

Kerrigan: Clever. How long after our initial attack can we expect them to regroup and retaliate?

Duran: I’d say in 6 minutes.

Kerrigan: That only gives us enough time to launch a surprise attack against one base. But it is a sound plan. Cerebrate, feel free to launch your initial attack against either base. Failure is not an option. Slaughter them all in my name!

Build a second Hatchery at expansion #3.

Build a Nydus Canal at expansion #3 to connect with the main base. Now you can teleport all units directly there.

The last Protoss outpost, past the bridge, has Dragoons and Reavers.

You can find Fenix at this location. First, kill the Dragoons, then destroy the 2 Photon Cannons near Fenix, then Fenix. The Photon Cannons have 100 plasma shields/100 hit points. Fenix has 800 plasma shields/ 800 hit points. In addition, a normal dragoon does 20 damage and has 1 armor. Fenix does 60 damage and has 5 armor. So it is much smarter to destroy the photon cannons first.

Fenix: This is a betrayal, most foul, Kerrigan! We were fools to have gone along with this charade!

Kerrigan: You’re right, Fenix. I used you to get the job done, and you played along just like I knew you would. You Protoss are all so headstrong and predictable, you are your own worst enemies.

Fenix: That’s ironic. I can remember Tassadar teaching you a very similar lesson on Char.

Kerrigan: I took that lesson to heart, Praetor. Now, are you ready to die a second time?

Fenix: The Khala awaits me, Kerrigan. And although I am prepared to face my destiny, you’ll not find me easy prey!

Kerrigan: Then that shall be your epitaph.

(Fenix dies)

Raynor: Fenix! No!

Kerrigan: What are you worried about, Jim? He died the way all Protoss hope to: In combat!

Raynor: He died because you betrayed him. How many noble souls do you need to consume before you’re satisfied? How many more people need to die before you realize what you’ve become?

Kerrigan: You don’t even know what you’re talking about, Jim!

Raynor: Don’t I? I’ll see you dead for this, Kerrigan. For Fenix and all the others who got caught between you and your mad quest for power!

Kerrigan: Though talk, Jimmy. But I don’t think you have what it takes to be a killer.

Raynor: It may not be tomorrow, darlin’. It may not even happen with an army at my back. But rest assured: I’m the man who’s going to kill you some day. I’ll be seein’ you.

Build 24 Eggs of Zerglings.

Select the Ultralisk Den. Upgrade Chitinous Plating.

Send them through the Nydus Canal to expansion #3 — near the Protoss base and attack the Protoss base.

Build 4 Ultralisks.

Build Extractors at expansion #3 and #4.

Build 3 extra Spore Colonies in expansion #2 (southwest). That Terran base still has a few Battlecruisers and Wraiths.

Keep up building Zerglings, and sometimes Hydralisks at the pace the minerals and vespene gas allows, and keep sending them through the Nydus Canal and into the Protoss base.

The Protoss base has Scouts and Carriers — make sure to bring Hydralisks. Careful with the High Templars.

Select the Ultralisk Cavern. Evolve Anabolic Synthesis.

Send more Ultralisks and Hydralisks until the Protoss base is destroyed.

Now finish the other half of the Terran base. If you didn’t get to Duke earlier, you can find him as a Battlecruiser here.

A normal Battlecruiser has 500 hit points, does 25 damage and has 3 armor. General Duke has 1500 hit points, does 50 damage, and has 5 armor.

Duke: Well, well, well. If it isn’t little Kerrigan. I had a feelin’ we’d be meetin’ each other again. You’ve got a lot to answer for, little girl.

Kerrigan: General Duke. You know I always wanted to have you killed. This is kind of exciting for me.

Duke: Do your worst then, girl. You ain’t takin’ Edmund Duke without a fight!

(Duke dies).

Mengsk: Kerrigan, you murdering bitch! We had a deal!

Kerrigan: Oh, come on, Arcturus. Did you really think I’d allow you to come into power again? You practically fed me to the Zerg on Tarsonis! You’re directly responsible for the hell I’ve been through! Did you honestly think I’d let you get away with that?

Mengsk: But you said revenge was secondary to defeating the UED!

Kerrigan: I lied. I liberated this planet because it was the UED’s primary staging point, not because I was under any obligation to you. I used you to destroy the Psi Disrupter. And now that I’ve got my Broods back, you’re no longer necessary for my plans. I think I’ll leave you here, Arcturus, among the ashes of your precious Dominion. I want you to live to see me rise to power. And I want you to always remember in your most private moments that it was you who turned me loose in the first place.

Note: When all the Protoss and Terran buildings (including Missile Turrets and addons) are destroyed…

Kerrigan: It is done, Cerebrate. They’ve all been destroyed. Let us return to Tarsonis to rest. For the first time since my transfiguration I am wearied of the slaughter.
