Dark Horse StarCraft Comics #1 Free For Limited Time

Throughout the month of May and for a limited time, Dark Horse has made the first issue of three StarCraft graphic novels free to read digitally.

  • StarCraft: Scavengers #1
  • StarCraft: Soldiers #1
  • StarCraft: Survivors #1

I recommend to read them in the same order shown above, as that’s how they were released originally.

StarCraft Audiobooks

Some of the StarCraft novels have been released as StarCraft Audiobooks over the years, which you can listen to at home, in the car, or while traveling.

It seems more StarCraft audiobooks might be coming at some point. For example, two books of the Dark Templar trilogy are yet to be released as an audiobook. Follow @blizzplanetcom for updates. I’ll share when those become available.

Trivia: Neil Kaplan (Tychus voice actor) was hired to narrate some of the StarCraft audiobooks: Liberty’s Crusade; I, Mengsk; and Heaven’s Devils. Christie Golden narrated her own novel The Dark Templar, Firstborn.

Blizzard Entertainment Acquires Metal Arms Trademark

The United States Patent and Trademark Office lists Blizzard Entertainment as the last listed owner of the Metal Arms trademark. Metal Arms, was formerly registered by Sierra Entertainment and it was originally developed by Swingin’ Ape Studios — which took the reins of StarCraft: Ghost (after Nihilistic departed development).

Blizzard Entertainment acquired Swingin’ Ape Studios in May 16, 2006.

Metal Arms was a top-notch FPS game. Blizzard Entertainment is currently developing a few unannounced games — the Next-Gen MMO Titan, the unannounced game, and a third one. These are now dubbed Unannounced Games (in plural) at the Blizzard Careers page.

It is all speculation at this point. The only fact is that Metal Arms appears on the Blizzard Entertainment trademark list. Of course, it might have simply been … a glitch in the system. got it?

2010 Blizzard Global Writing Contest Announced

Blizzard has announced the 2010 Blizzard Global Writing Contest. Get the chance to visit Blizzard’s headquarters and BlizzCon. Meet the Creative Development Team as a bonus. Who wouldn’t want to shake hands with Chris Metzen the Bourbon Cowboy, and Micky Neilson?

Blizzard Quote:
You’re called to action once again, to use your wits and strength, to compete for the ultimate prize. Your weapons? They seem to be but a musty tome and quill, but know that their power is far stronger than the armies of the Scourge, far craftier than the zerg Swarm, and far mightier than any demon from the Burning Hells. Ready your tools, scribe, and prepare for combat with the inky beast called fiction!

Enter a short story for the chance to win a free trip to Blizzard’s headquarters in southern California! This contest is open to entrants from around the world and will be judged by Blizzard’s very own writers and masters of lore. For more information, head to the contest page:

The Official StarCraft Timeline

Recently we gave you a sneak peek into the StarCraft: Heaven’s Devils hardcover novel by William C. Dietz. In our video preview, you could see at the final pages, a section with a length of thirteen pages which summarizes the entire StarCraft Timeline..

This novel covers much of the mysterious past of Jim Raynor at the moment he was age 18, up to the moment he joined the Confederate Marine Corps during the Guild Wars. Raynor was captured by the Kel-Morian Combine, and interrogated ruthlessly. After his escape, he went AWOL and there began his outlaw years for the next six years until Tychus Findlay was arrested. After that, Jim Raynor decided to settle back. Got married, and got a job as a Marshal.

Any decent StarCraft lore fanboy out there, including myself, have always wished Blizzard Entertainment could elaborate and explore in-depth this mysterious time period of the Koprulu Terran history to learn more about the Kel-Morian Combine and the Umojan Protectorate.

The wait is over folks. Blizzard Entertainment and Gallery Books present you StarCraft: Heaven’s Devils.

There you will see a few tie-ins with the recent Wildstorm StarCraft monthly comics # 1-7. That scene described by Cole Hickson in the Wildstorm’s StarCraft comics by Simon Furman (The Transformers) where Cole met Jim Raynor at the Kel-Morian Internment camp-36 on the planet Turaxis II plays out center stage in the hardcover novel. That’s what I love about Blizzard’s Creative Team — continuity and tie-ins; the care and polish of details and the whole shebang.

I don’t know about you, but knowing how many rabid-hungering lore-fans out there have been craving for anything with the keywords Kel-Morian and Umojan Protectorate for years — I recommend you to pick this up before they get sold out. It takes a few months to restock with a second edition printing.

Don’t think I will let you drooling there after letting you smell the big steak. Here you got a crumb below, but if you want the steak, you gotta head over get your paws on the book.

I transcribed the whole thing for you. I don’t doubt I will have the Blizzard’s Men in Black team sneaking on my back.

Undercover agent Medievaldragon out.

P.S.: Just in case no one sees me ever again, I <3 you guys. Oh, and I <3 Metzen, Fredericksen, Neilson, Jaime and Ayelet. Related News:
